School Visits and Workshops
Since I love interacting directly with readers, conducting school visits is one of my most favorite parts of being an author.
If you are interested in booking me for a school or library visit, I offer several different presentations and I enjoy speaking and presenting before all grades and ages.
In the past, I have presented at several Jefferson County public schools including Westport Middle School, DuPont Manual High, Eastern High School and more. I have also presented at area private high schools such as St. Xavier High School and Assumption High School. I have also been booked for events by the Louisville Free Public Library and the Barr Memorial Library at Fort Knox. In addition to speaking to school grade students, I also enjoy presenting for adult audiences, and have been booked in the past by Spalding University and The Society for Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
Students of all ages enjoy being able to interact directly with me, and are provided an opportunity to ask questions about my research, the process of writing and, (most popularly,) the business of writing.
Some of my available presentations include:
The Mysterious Life and Death of Edgar Allan Poe
In this presentation, I provide a quick overview of the life of one of America's most treasured and troubled authors. Drawing on the research I conducted while writing Nevermore, I have developed an engaging and entertaining program that will excite students to the subject of literature and, specifically, to the work and life of this fascinating literary icon.
During the second part of this presentation, I delve into detail about the strange circumstances surrounding Edgar Allan Poe's disappearance and mysterious and untimely death. Also included in this presentation is an explanation on how Poe's life and works influenced my own writing process with Nevermore. I also speak briefly on the publishing process and the different phases a book goes through on its journey from idea to a fully finished novel in a bookstore. This is my post popular presentation for middle school, high school and college students.
A presentation about one of America's greatest real-life superheros! This entertaining presentation focuses on the life and trials of Erik Weisz (Harry Houdini,) a personal hero of mine. Contact me at if you'd like to book this program that explores the mysterious life--and the equally as mysterious death--of this American legend.
Writing Workshops for Young Writers and/or Adult Writers
I teach many writing workshops during the year, and enjoy working one-on-one with students and also with larger groups. Different workshops work better for different age groups, audiences and facilities. If you're interested in booking me to teach a creative writing workshop, please contact me directly to determine the best program for your group at
